It is true. During the week, I am an accountant. I just really, really love awesome soap. Our family lives in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and I have been a long-time customer of many of the soap-making businesses that show up at farmers' markets and other events in Minneapolis/St. Paul and around the state. These are everywhere, so think about visiting one these places for produce, strawberries... and soap!
A while ago, I decided to become a producer while remaining an enthusiastic consumer. My husband and I took a soap-making class at the Marine Mills Folk School (kind of) near our home. The instructor was awesome, and my husband and I decided that the only thing preventing us from trying to do our own soaps was some investment of time and energy.
So here we are. While the skills from my day job allow me to assure you that the Fir Street Soap Company is in full compliance with applicable tax law, what I hope some of you also conclude is that this is something that anybody who feels the same way I do can try and enjoy. Finding the right essential oil to meet the season or the perfect coloring clay and plant extract is not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning.
This 'job' is more fun than I could have ever imagined. I hope the passion and enthusiasm I have for my product comes through in every bar.
